What should I look for when choosing a pressure washing company for my driveway?

There are a could of things we need to consider when looking to clean a driveway:

1) Insurance! The company should be insured in the event a loss occurs. General Liability is the basic insurance a company (worth hiring) will have. Worker’s comp is conditional - Owner / operator companies with no employees won’t have this coverage. No insurance is a No Hire situation. Period.

2) References! Newer companies might need that first job to have before and after photos, but if they’ve been around for more than a year, they’ve done a lot of the work they advertise for and have the photos. Also, checking reviews on Google will give a good indication of how they operate.

3) Proper equipment: bigger isn’t always better. A company that shows up with a wrapped truck and trailer may also have poor hiring practices. Everyone should be willing to take the time to talk about their equipment and the methods they’ll use to get the job done. If it sounds like they read the brochure and know a few buzz words, maybe that’s all they know! Don’t be rushed into getting the work done. No company is actually booked out until the end of time. Believe it or not, YouTube is a decent resource. Pink Flamingo Power Wash LLC, Softwash TV, and Panhandle Power Wash Supply - Florida are great people to reference.

4) Chemicals - Ask if they’re using chemicals and how they’ll mitigate any vegetation contamination. Rinsing with water before, during, and after the job is usually all it takes assuming they’re not using too high of concentration.

5) Written estimates should be done in person. I’ve done estimates and quotes over the phone and with photos, but it’s not ideal. “No that bad” is my personal red flag - a simple algae job on a driveway ended up being a carpet of moss to remove. Have the company come out to do the estimate; get to know them and be specific about the work you want done. This way, there’s less surprise for both parties later on.

6) Check local and state laws for licensing and bonding. New Hampshire have licenses, nor require bonds for pressure washing. A bond can be obtained by the company through their insurance broker (most likely), but don’t be surprised if they add the cost to the estimate!

In summary:

✅ Insurance

✅ Reference material

✅ Knowledge of equipment and process

✅ Knowledge of chemicals

✅ In person estimates
